Visitors to the Ely and Caerau Festival are to be offered a sneak preview of The Mill – the flagship housing development set to bring 800 new homes to a riverside site in Canton, Cardiff.
A team from Lovell Homes, the Tirion Group and Cadwyn Housing Association – the partnership behind the development – will be attending the community event, organised by local charity ACE (Action in Caerau and Ely ), at Western Leisure Centre, Caerau Lane, Ely, Cardiff CF5 5HJ on Saturday, 9 July.
Visitors to the Lovell stand can watch a fly-through video of the new housing development which starts on site later this year (see below).
The computer-animated simulation shows the design and street scenes from The Mill which will create 800 homes for purchase and rent including one- and two-bedroom apartments and two-, three- and four-bedroom homes at the former Arjo Wiggins Paper Mill site just to the west of the city centre.
The £100 million urban village development is one of Wales’ biggest regeneration programmes with half of the 800 brand-new properties set to be affordable homes. The landmark scheme will create 358 homes for open market sale by Lovell and provide 442 homes for homes for rent for Tirion.
Lovell Homes regional sales manager Julie Bowen says: “We’re really looking forward to meeting Festival visitors, residents and other community groups at the Ely and Caerau Festival. The Mill is a major new development for Canton which is set to create much-needed new homes close to the city centre.
“It’s particularly exciting to be sharing our new fly-through video – the film is a great way of helping people visualise how the development will look.
Our team will also be on hand to answer questions, provide information about the new homes for sale and rent and talk about the jobs and training opportunities which form an important part of the regeneration programme.”
As well as the fly-through video, visitors to the Lovell Homes stand at the Ely and Caerau Festival will be able to view illustrations and floor plans of the new housing. In addition, there will be an independent financial advisor available offering free information and advice about mortgages and ways of making your money go further.
Work began in December 2015 on the creation of the infrastructure for the development which will feature a tree-lined main boulevard with leafy ‘green streets’ branching off it. Construction of the new homes will begin by the end of 2016 with the first 102 homes for Tirion set to be completed by the end of 2017 and the development of 358 homes for sale set to be finished in 2022.
