Young stars playing for Peterborough-based FC United Hammers under-12s team have scored double success with help from local partnership housing developer Lovell.
The team’s youngsters are celebrating winning both the Hunts Youth Under-12s League and the League Cup. Team sponsor Lovell – which is building Lapwing Court, a new extra care development in Orton Brimbles, Peterborough, for housing association and care services provider Cross Keys Homes – praised the young players.
Lovell project manager Chris Cooper said: “This is a fantastic and well-deserved result for the players and coach Danny Clifton. We are working in an area close to their training ground in Peterborough Road so it’s been great to support them and follow their progress.
“The team is full of talented, hard-working players with a great will to win – as they’ve shown with their amazing League and Cup double.” FC United Hammers topped the Under-12s League table with 60 points and beat Ramsey Colts Trojans 5-1 in the League Cup final.
Coach Danny Clifton says: “”The past nine months have been a huge success for the team and their hard work paid off when they won the league and cup double. Many things contributed towards this success and the support the guys at Lovell gave the team was a major factor in taking the team to another level. I cannot stress enough the difference it makes for a grassroots football side to have a genuine and helpful sponsor.”
The Lapwing Court scheme will create 54 much-needed one- and two-bedroom apartments for social rent for over-55s. The development is set to open in early 2017.
