Children from Farmborough Church Primary School in north east Somerset who helped name an award-winning housing development in their village toured some of the completed homes and met the construction team.
Lovell Homes welcomed 112 pupils to Lavender Grove, the company’s new development in Farmborough.
Wearing hard hats and hi-vis gear, the children watched some of the construction equipment at work, learnt about safety around construction sites and toured the development’s show homes. They also met site manager Brendon Schooling who answered their questions about how homes are built. The visitors included ten-year-old Fleur, who originally came up with the Lavender Grove name for the development in a competition set by Lovell for pupils.
Lovell community liaison officer Bernadette Vickery says: “It was lovely to be able to welcome the children from Farmborough Church Primary School to Lavender Grove, especially as they helped us with naming the development. Involving the local community through this kind of initiative and helping children and young people learn about construction are both important to us. It was great to show the children round, they asked some brilliant questions and were really impressed by the new homes.”
Co-headteacher Darren Roberts says: “We were really pleased to be able to tour the Lavender Grove site and were made very welcome by all at Lovell Homes. We’ve been watching with interest from afar, as the development has taken shape and so to see it up close and to get to find out more about the construction process was of great value to the children. Many thanks to Bernadette and Brendon, the site manager, for organising things so well, looking after us and answering all of our questions.”
Within easy travelling distance of both Bath, nine miles away, and Bristol, a 12-mile drive, Lavender Grove has proved highly popular with homebuyers, offering them the chance to buy a brand-new home in an outstanding location.
