Lovell, working with Clarion Housing and Ealing Council, has delivered 71 new homes for social rent at Sherwood Close in West Ealing. This completes the first phase of this major regeneration project, which is transforming a former 1970s estate into a thriving, green neighbourhood of high-quality new homes.
Stuart Gibbons, regional managing director at Lovell London, commented, “Lovell has a strong track record in delivering complex mixed-tenure regeneration projects and we’re very pleased to achieve this first milestone. These spacious and well-designed modern homes, together with the vastly improved layout of the neighbourhood and the extensive landscaping, will make Sherwood Close a great place to live and we’re excited to see the first people move in.”
Tony Clements, executive director for place at Ealing Council, said: “It is very exciting to see the first phase of the Sherwood Close development completed and ready for families to move in. Ealing is committed to delivering 2,500 genuinely affordable homes by 2022 and developments like this are key to achieving this. This development will provide much needed family size homes as well as smaller homes for individuals or couples.”
The new affordable homes are in a mix of apartments, maisonettes and townhouses, ranging from one to four bedrooms. Most of the properties on the original estate were one-bedroom apartments and the higher provision of family homes gives local people greater choice to suit their needs and requirements.
Work at Sherwood Close started in 2016 following extensive consultation with residents and stakeholders. When complete, the new development will comprise around 300 high-quality new homes; 114 are for social rent or shared ownership and 184 for private sale. Enhanced design will create even more green space and improve links with the surrounding area.
