A University of South Wales graduate from Newport is forging a successful career in construction after securing a role as a graduate quantity surveyor with Lovell at its development The Mill in Cardiff.

27-year-old John Evans has joined the leading partnerships housebuilder on its graduate trainee scheme after achieving a 2:1 in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management.

Since joining Lovell, John has been working hard to hone all of the tips and tricks of the trade as well as working his way around different departments to understand how they all come together to achieve their main goal.

John will spend time with estimating, business development, site operations, technical, customer care and health and safety to ensure that he has a well-rounded knowledge of the industry.

John said: “I am really enjoying my time at Lovell and I have learnt so much already. I am still constantly learning and the involvement in different departments is what appealed to me most about this role as it is great to understand the entire process from planning to customer care.

“My greatest achievement so far in my role with Lovell has been to be able to get so involved with The Mill development as this is the Lovell flagship development within its South Wales and South West region and it’s brilliant to be able to be a part of its success.”

John will spend two years as a graduate quantity surveyor and following the completion of the graduate scheme will be appointed into a role where he will be able to develop his career and progress further.
