We are very satisfied with the entirety of the refurbishment project, although the site was closed throughout lockdown, Lovell was able to push forward activity as soon as the site re-opened. We worked together closely. The site was managed efficiently and to a very high standard. We are really pleased with the outcome.

Dave Parker,

Project Surveyor for Kettering Borough Council

Kettering Borough Council (KBC) own the two buildings (Block A and Block B) that form Hampden Crescent in Kettering. These imposing structures were built in the 1920s and have had no significant upgrade since.

To make Hampden Crescent a desirable place to live with modern-day standards the complete refurbishment and re-modelling of the flats was required and Lovell were appointed to carry out this work.

This scheme is a major project for KBC. Lovell understood this from the outset and we were keen to work collaboratively and support them through the process. Lovell ensured the pre-start process progressed efficiently, there was an effective start on site at an agreed date and that the construction phase proceeded smoothly.

During the pre-start of the first contract, Lovell absorbed considerable time and cost to make the contract work. Lovell were instrumental in driving this project forward and ensuring it stayed on track. KBC now have two eye-catching landmark buildings as well as 36 new one and two bedroom units for rent.

The new Montrose Court (Hampden Crescent Block A) is now a desirable place to live with modern-day standards. The complete refurbishment and re-modelling of the block provides sixteen, one bedroomed flats and two, two bedroom flats. Ground floor flats are fully accessible for wheelchair users with ramped access, disabled parking bay and scooter storage

Kettering BC were very keen to see local businesses and workers employed on this scheme. The Lovell project team have worked closely with local agencies and have successfully employed a substantial number of local tradesmen and SMEs as subcontractors on the project.

Lovell used the LM3 system for evaluating the value to the local economy of our local employment strategy. This project has achieved a score of 1.91. This means that every £1 of project spend by KBC has provided £1.91 of economic benefit in Kettering
