Anthem Homes, which is owned by leading Midlands’ landlord whg, will be working in partnership with Birmingham-based Lovell Partnerships to build more than 250 homes on the former Caparo engineering site in Walsall, which has stood empty for over a decade.
The multi-million pound scheme is the first to be developed under the new Joint Venture (JV) partnership, which will see the partners develop much needed homes across the Midlands.
The brownfield site, which has been backed as a prime location for residential development by West Midlands’ Mayor Andy Street and the West Midlands Combined Authority has now been acquired by the JV partnership, with assistance from leading property agency Harris Lamb. The multi-generational development will feature a range of homes to suit different living circumstances.
whg’s chief executive Gary Fulford said: “We are always looking at new and creative ways to tackle the housing shortage and this innovative partnership will enable us to ramp up our development programme and help provide more good quality and affordable homes for families in Walsall, contributing to an inclusive growth agenda.”
Lovell regional managing director Stuart Penn added: “We’re excited to be joining forces with Anthem Homes and whg through the new JV. The partnership enables us to pool our respective strengths and puts us in an even better position to deliver the high-quality new homes, available across a range of tenures, which are so urgently needed across the Midlands.
“A division of national construction and regeneration company Morgan Sindall Group, Lovell has extensive expertise in providing solutions to unlock land for residential development and deliver successful housing-led regeneration. We look forward to working closely in partnership with Anthem Homes on the JV’s first scheme, creating much-needed new Black Country homes at Caparo which occupies a key position in the Walsall – Wolverhampton growth corridor.
“We expect the JV partnership to make a significant contribution to the West Midlands Combined Authority’s goal of delivering 215,000 new homes by 2031.”
Following this acquisition, the partnership will now seek to bring development forward on this important site, working alongside Walsall MBC and with the support of Homes England.
