We have teamed up with The Wensum Trust to tackle the shortage of skilled workers in the construction industry and educate young people on the range of career opportunities on offer.

This is starting with the sponsorship of two students from the Acle Academy which will lead onto apprenticeships next year when the two apprentices will join the team at our Acle site at St Edmund’s Park.

A longer-term commitment will provide students at all the not-for-profit education Trust’s High Schools with opportunities onsite, with the Trust embedding construction into the curriculum for 11 to 16-year-olds.

As we are part of the Morgan Sindall Group plc, we invited and included Morgan Sindall Construction as part of the partnership, helping to provide further opportunities for young people across the region.

We caught up with Simon Medler, our regional managing director of Lovell in East Anglia, who said: “A career in the construction industry is hugely rewarding, fast paced and challenging, and there is a range of roles and opportunities on offer in the sector. Working with The Wensum Trust is a real opportunity to spark that excitement and interest in construction at a young age, and give them practical skills for the future.”

Daniel Thrower, CEO of The Wensum Trust, comments: “Working with Lovell we can provide our students with a broad range of skills, open the door to a career in the industry and showcase and educate our students on construction and jobs in the sector including project managers, architects, geologists, environmental science, as well as bricklayers and carpenters.”

We are committed to providing jobs and training for local people and our apprentices gain valuable construction experience and qualifications, with on-the-job experience working with skilled construction and maintenance professionals.
