To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2023, running from 6th to 12th February, our East Anglia team visited schools and colleges to promote careers in the construction industry and the range of opportunities available – and they got plenty of hands-on experience.

On Wednesday 8th February 2023, Lovell visited students at Springwood High School in King’s Lynn. Around 35 students studying construction came along to Futures Lecture event to hear Sasha Bainbridge and Michael Saunders from the Lovell team discuss the roles available and routes into the construction industry. They delivered an in-depth presentation to the students, answered questions and gave advice on how to develop their careers in the construction industry. We will soon be setting up a site visit with Year 12 bricklayers from Springwood to give them a taster of working on-site.

The team also visited Acle Academy for a skills event where they got to have a go at carpentry and bricklaying. The carpentry group got to work with the team to build a mini house, whilst the bricklaying element challenged students to build corners.

Plus, Lovell attended the East Coast College Apprenticeships Fair to speak to students about apprenticeship opportunities.

Sasha Bainbridge, our partnerships director, comments: “Many students are not aware of the range of roles available in the construction industry. Here at Lovell we are committed to offering work placements on our sites – a great way of finding out if the world of construction is right for you. It was wonderful to meet so many students this week, including many young women, all interested in getting in the industry. We were particularly impressed with the mini house and bricklaying skills we saw this week.”

The Department for Education’s National Apprenticeship Week is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of apprentices around the country and this year’s theme is ‘Skills For Life’.
