Lovell has partnered with Preston-based flooring contractor Designer Contracts to give something back to the Burnside Centre in Middleton, organising and funding a brand-new floor worth over £4,000.

The completed project saw both businesses come together to cover the cost and installation of a high-quality floor, all with the aim of boosting use of the fantastic facilities available at the valued community hub, which has been supporting Middleton residents for more than 50 years.

A Forbo Safety Surestep floor was chosen for the Centre’s IT room to create an even and safe surface, with Lovell’s North West team managing the installation.

Laura Taylor, Lovell community engagement manager, said: “The much-loved Burnside Centre has a mission of ‘inspiring change’ in Middleton. The flooring in the IT room had become old and uneven, impacting the learning environment. We’re pleased that we’ve not only been able to support the work of the Centre, but also completed a project that will make a tangible difference to its overall objective of having a positive impact on local people.

“A big thank you to Designer Contracts for partnering with us on this project. Their business values and approach to sustainability align with Lovell’s own social value journey so this was the ideal partnership of two businesses that are very active in the area.”

Louise McGaffigan, sales manager at Designer Contracts, said: “The centre is clearly very important to the residents of Middleton, so we were delighted to be involved in this project and to be able to supply flooring to transform their IT room. The new flooring had made a huge difference and has created a safe and inclusive space for the community.”

Kerry Edwards, manager at Burnside Centre, added: “It was lovely to be approached by Lovell and to be asked the open question of what they could do to support our Centre. We offer a range of support services and facilities for the whole community, and we rely on the generosity of others to help us continue, particularly in the current economic climate.

“The IT room is used to provide training on a range of topics. The old floor had definitely seen better days and was really impacting use of the room. The new flooring not only makes it look so much better but improves its accessibility. Thank you to both Lovell and Designer Contracts.”

Lovell has a full programme of social value and community engagement projects that it delivers across the North West in communities surrounding its developments. Work recently began on its Middleton development called Eden Park which features a range of two-, three- and four-bed homes.
