This award recognises the exceptional achievement of an individual completing an apprenticeship during challenging or unprecedented circumstances, including challenges, barriers and personal adversity.
During the application process, we reached out to our teams to ask them to make nominations and we were inundated with nominations for Kynleigh - a testament to her performance and character as a trainee assistant site manager at Lovell.
Kynleigh is doing a construction site supervisor level 4 with West Suffolk College and undertakes her work at Lovell with care and precision, manages subcontractor relationships with confidence and has been at the forefront of our efforts to close the skills gap and diversify the industry.
In July 2022, Kynleigh was diagnosed with Stage 4 endometriosis. Determined to find a solution, she began saving every penny she could and pledged to raise more by climbing Mount Snowden. In November 2022, Kynleigh tragically suffered an accident in which she broke her back and was nearly paralysed. She required three months of intensive physiotherapy and psychological support to allow her to walk again. In January 2023, she came back to work at Lovell - starting with extremely light duties only!
Kyleigh climbed Mount Snowden in June 2023 and later successfully had her egg-retrieval operation to enable her to keep her dreams alive of a family when the time is right. After finding out she’d been shortlisted as one of three finalists, Kynleigh said: “When I received the email to congratulate me on being shortlisted, I was thrilled! When I started working with Lovell, I knew my future was in construction, and being recognised for my hard work, performance and attitude is incredible. Lovell has supported me so much and I’m excited to attend the awards ceremony in February.”
Graeme Simpson, site manager and Kynleigh’s manager, said: “Kynleigh’s commitment to Lovell and the results she has been producing is fantastic. Using the quality management system and site audit pro to their full potential, she’s been holding trades to account, proactively dealing with problems head-on, and assisting the NHBC and LABC during inspections. Her work ethic is fabulous, and she has a strong desire to do well for the team. We are all so proud of her and what she has achieved over the past year and we wish her the best of luck at the awards ceremony.”
The Apprenticeships Norfolk Awards 2024 awards will be held on Wednesday 7th February 2023 at The Assembly House Norwich.
