The training saw firefighters from East Harling and Attleborough fire departments take part in search and rescue exercises in two newly built properties.
Using cosmetic smoke, firefighters had to carry out a search and rescue, whilst wearing breathing apparatus. Four casualty dummies were planted in the houses for rescue purposes.
The exercise was designed to test operational crew responses to domestic building fires in unknown buildings and layouts, and the exercise and training lasted around an hour and a half.
Ben Chase, managing quantity surveyor at Lovell, and a retained firefighter based at East Harling Fire Station, said: “I’m currently working on the Great Ellingham development for Lovell and have been providing evening and weekend cover at East Harling Fire station for 12 years. We don’t have many opportunities to train outside our normal training facilities, so I jumped at the opportunity to use the houses on our project as our training ground after agreement from Lovell and Flagship. It was great to be training in a real-life situation, and a big thank you to Lovell for allowing the training to take place at the development.”
Station manager, Oliver, from Norfolk Fire and Rescue, said: “Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service really appreciate the opportunity to use offsite facilities for training and would like to thank Lovell for providing their construction site to us.”
