As part of its partnership with the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk (BCKLWN), Lovell returned to King’s Lynn Academy (KLA) this April to host a workshop and site tours for students eager to explore careers in construction.
Following two successful assemblies earlier this year, Operations Manager for Lovell, Michael Saunders, led a hands-on workshop at KLA on the 2 April, aimed at students who had shown interest in pursuing careers in the construction industry. The workshop provided insight into the wide range of roles and opportunities within the sector, from engineering to project management.
The initiative was supported by BCKLWN, with council staff actively involved in helping to coordinate and deliver the programme alongside Lovell. Their contribution ensured a smooth and impactful experience for the students, strengthening the partnership's shared commitment to community engagement and education.
The following day, those students had the opportunity to visit Lovell Homes Florence Fields development site, where they experienced first-hand the day-to-day workings of a live construction project. This immersive site tour was designed to give students a tangible understanding of the construction process, from the foundations to the final finishing touches.
Michael said: “It’s fantastic to see the students at King’s Lynn Academy so engaged with the possibilities a career in construction can offer. This is a vital industry, and we’re excited to be part of inspiring the next generation of talent. At Lovell, we’re committed to developing local skills and creating pathways into construction, which is more important than ever in helping to address the skills gap.”
This initiative is part of a wider commitment by Lovell to support the local community and promote careers in construction. It’s also an integral element of Lovell’s ongoing housing partnership with BCKLWN, which is celebrating its 10th year this year. The Florence Fields development is just one of many projects in the area that will help meet the growing demand for high-quality housing.
With over 50 years of experience, Lovell has been creating and enhancing multi-tenure places across the UK. The company is driven by the fundamental belief that home is the essential foundation for people to live their best lives, and it works with communities to make a lasting positive difference everywhere it builds.
The Lovell affiliation with BCKLWN has helped bring forward major housing projects like Florence Fields and Valentine Park, which are both part of the broader regeneration efforts across the region.
Leader of the council, Alistair Beales, said: “This is exactly what we mean when we talk about this programme delivering more than housing. We put a huge amount of emphasis on social value – it is built into our contract with Lovell. This piece of work will help to deliver that by inspiring the next generation of young people and helping them to develop the skills they need to get good jobs in our local economy.”
