Waste Water Heat Recovery

Heating water for showers can waste a lot of energy, between an estimated 85% to 90% of the energy used to create hot shower water simply goes down the drain.

What is a Waste Water Heat Recovery (WWHR) system?

Waste water heat recovery means using the residual heat from waste shower water to preheat the incoming cold water that refills the system.

Calculations for the Future Homes Standard show that energy for domestic hot water production will consume around 25% of the total energy budget, so having a waste water heat recovery system can make a big difference.

WWHRS could saves up to 55% of the energy per shower use!

WWHRS uses a heat exchanger to transfer the heat energy from waste shower water, using it to preheat mains cold water.

The Recoup Pipe HEX Vertical WWHRS System fitted into the Tomorrow Home is a simple heat recovery device that recovers the heat energy from waste shower water. It uses it to preheat incoming mains cold water and sends the preheated water back to the shower and/or water heater. This can reduce the energy required per shower use by up to 55%. Energy that would normally go down the drain becomes reused every time the shower is used.

WWHRS helps Lovell, relating it to the Tomorrow Home specifically, meet the new Part-L building regulations for energy efficiency. The high efficiency of this Recoup product produces more Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) points.
