Partnership housing developer Lovell has recently welcomed a University of South Wales graduate to the team as part of a Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) Venture Graduate Scheme, which links talented graduates with ambitious businesses in South Wales.

Huw Lewis has been appointed as environmental and sustainability graduate at Lovell, joining the growing team at the developer’s divisional head office in Cardiff. As part of his new role, Huw will research ways of improving and implementing sustainability measures whilst reducing imprint on the environment.

In 2020, the 25-year-old from Pontyclun achieved a 2:1 undergraduate degree in Geography, and at the end of October this year, is set to graduate with a Merit in Wildlife and Conservation Management for his master’s degree.

Huw said: “I believe that sustainability is not only important, but imperative. Housebuilding is one of the largest industries in the UK and impacts a significant amount of people and the environment, and yet there is great potential to ensure that these impacts are positive.

“I am fortunate enough to now be part of a company that takes this seriously and already has a great track record of economic, social, and environmental sustainability; I hope to continue this trend.”

The CCR Venture Graduate Scheme aims to provide paid graduate level employment alongside a fully-funded professional qualification delivered by the University of South Wales as well as on-hand support during the internship and networking opportunities with fellow graduates.

Huw added: “As part of the scheme, I aim to enhance my professional development over two years with Lovell whilst also supporting relevant qualifications, such as my road to chartership, as one of my goals is to see myself officially recognised as having great environmental and sustainable practice by achieving a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) status.

“I’m grateful to have been given this opportunity by Lovell, and I’m extremely excited to progress my development whilst learning from the vast knowledge and wealth of experience the Lovell team possess.”

James Duffett, regional managing director at Lovell, said: “We are delighted that we have appointed Huw. He brings fresh ideas to the table with enthusiasm and dedication and has already proven himself as a great asset to our team.

“Over the past few years, CCR graduate schemes have allowed us to help young people to take their first step into their desired career paths, through a variety of different roles we have to offer here at Lovell.

“We are thrilled to be continuing our venture in helping ambitious young individuals – such as Huw – to progress in their careers.”
