The new Extra Care development, located in the Forest Pines area of New Milton, is a partnership between Hampshire County Council, Places for People Living Plus, Lovell Later Living and New Forest District Council. It is expected that construction will begin in the summer with completion by the end of 2023.
Hampshire County Council’s Executive Lead Member for Adult Services and Public Health, Councillor Liz Fairhurst, said: “The number of older people in Hampshire with care needs is increasing year-on year and many will be searching for the right type accommodation for their later years where they can continue living independently, but with the added reassurance that care and support is available 24/7, if they need it. Extra Care provides this – and with a number of fantastic schemes already up and running across the county, it’s increasing becoming many people’s first choice for later life housing.”
Cliff Kinch, Area Director for Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “Hampshire County Council is making great progress in delivering high-quality but affordable supported living options. We are proud to be working alongside our sister company Lovell Later Living in creating homes that allow older people to continue to live independently with the added security of knowing care and support are there.”
Andy Lomas, Managing Director of Places for People Living Plus, added: “We are thrilled to be moving forward with the latest development in our successful partnership with Hampshire County Council – a collaboration that will see a total of 164 homes delivered by next year. To date, we’ve completed 54 homes at Nightingale Lodge in Romsey and will create a further 110 homes at the New Milton and Gosport developments by the end of 2023 - delivering housing solutions that meet the needs of local people.
“At New Milton, that means creating well-designed, sustainable, and safe homes for customers who wish to remain independent, while simultaneously benefitting from care and support, should they need it.”
Councillor Jill Cleary, Portfolio Holder for Housing at New Forest District Council said: “I am extremely keen to meet our strategic housing objectives in delivering housing solutions for vulnerable people, whilst at the same time supporting independent living in new and modern living environments. Therefore, this scheme is very close to my heart and I welcome New Forest District Council’s support and involvement in ensuring this new Extra Care development provides vital accommodation and services to residents of the district.”
Paula Broadbent, Managing Director of Lovell Later Living, commented: “I am excited for us to be developing yet another vital scheme in Hampshire, in support of the County Council’s ambition to ensure older people across the county have access to specialist housing with care that supports independent living. This project continues our commitment to our partners in the delivery of vital Extra Care housing across Hampshire; designed to enable people to live independently in a home of their own with the peace of mind that care and support is available 24/7.
“This scheme will be our third development and will become an intrinsic part of the New Milton community. Lovell Later Living and sister construction company Morgan Sindall Construction are committed to delivering a high-quality development which residents and our partners will enjoy for many decades to come.
“Lovell Later Living is working closely with Partners to identify further sites across the county to achieve our ambition of accelerating the delivery of housing with care solutions for people in later life.”
The New Milton scheme forms part of the County Council’s £45 million investment in supporting the development of Extra Care housing across Hampshire over a ten-year period.
