The awards are run by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and are designed to recognise and celebrate the creativity, passion and innovation of housing organisations and individuals across the Welsh housing sector.
The awards ceremony took place on Thursday 30th November at Mercure Cardiff Holland House Hotel and Lovell took home the award in the Developing High Quality Homes category.
The Developing High Quality Homes category recognises organisations involved in building new social and affordable homes across Wales, particularly those on the cutting edge of innovation, that have not only helped meet housing needs but have also delivered multiple benefits for local communities.
Lovell won the award for The Mill development in Canton, Cardiff, which is being developed in partnership with Tirion, a community development organisation. The development includes 358 homes for open market sale by Lovell, which have all been sold, and 442 homes for rent – which will be managed by Cadwyn Housing Association – for Tirion. The scheme is going ahead with the support of the Welsh Government and financial backing from the Principality Building Society.
Alongside providing new homes Lovell also supported the local community through collaborating with local schools and organisations to create educational opportunities. The Mill also implemented initiatives to foster a sense of community cohesion, organising events and activities that brought residents together.
Lovell also sponsored the Working in Partnership category to support the awards and recognise the contributions of other housebuilders across Wales.
James Duffett, regional managing director at Lovell, said: “We are incredibly proud to have won this award for all our work at The Mill. It is a high-quality development full of great homes and has grown into a thriving community that makes it a wonderful place to call home.
“We will continue to create exceptional developments going forward with the help of our excellent team and partners who made this win possible with their unparalleled hard work and dedication.”
David Ward, chief executive for Tirion, added: “We are delighted to win at this year’s Welsh Housing Awards with Lovell. It recognises our ongoing commitment to building high quality affordable homes through our partnership with Lovell and Welsh Government to create dynamic and sustainable neighbourhoods like The Mill. A massive thank you to our team whose hard work and commitment has made this all possible. We look forward to working with Welsh Government, Lovell and other partners to build on this success by creating new communities across Wales with a focus on affordable housing, net-zero performance and the highest standards of placemaking.”
