Signposted Cymru specialises in initial and immediate intervention for individuals struggling with mental health and wellbeing issues, and offers responsive and tailored support for people and communities across Wales.
Charity founder Darren Thomas recently visited the Lovell site team working on the Ringland Regeneration project in Newport, and delivered a session to 60 employees and contractors on how they can improve their mental health and where they can go for dedicated support.
As a thank you for delivering the talk, Lovell donated £200 to the charity. Earlier this year, the developer raised £315 for Signposted Cymru at the Business Fives Cardiff charity football event, which saw a team of seven Lovell employees take part. In 2024 Lovell also donated £4,200 to the charity, taking its total donation amount to over £4,715.
Darren Thomas said: “It was an honour to be invited to speak at the Ringland Regeneration project as part of Mental Health Awareness Week. The conversation around mental health is more important than ever, and Lovell's commitment to supporting their workforce and the wider community is genuinely commendable. Their support of Signposted Cymru has helped us reach more people in need, and we’re incredibly grateful for their ongoing partnership.”
Lovell is committed to supporting and promoting its employees’ health and wellbeing, and has carried out a host of initiatives as part of this mission.
As well as arranging a talk at the Ringland Regeneration project, Lovell has hosted Signposted Cymru at its other developments and its head office in Cardiff, ensuring employees in all areas of the business have been reached.
The Lighthouse Charity, a specialist wellbeing charity supporting those in the construction industry, has also visited three Lovell sites in the region, to inform employees about the free support services they offer.
Across the company, Lovell has a network of mental health first aiders, who are members of the Lovell team trained to offer support and advice to their colleagues. The mental health first aiders undergo training delivered by St John Ambulance and attend meetings to discuss ways which the support they give can be improved.
The mental health first aiders also organise wellbeing sessions every few months and visit the on-site construction teams to have informal chats about mental health and facilitate conversations where people can share how they’re feeling. Each of the developer’s construction sites displays posters in the site offices and contractors’ rooms too, making sure everyone is aware of the support available to them.
Gemma Clissett, regional partnerships director at Lovell, said: “At Lovell, we take positive mental health very seriously and are always finding ways to improve the support we offer. We care deeply about our employees and contractors, and hope they feel reassured knowing they can turn to our mental health first aiders, or any of the dedicated charities we work with, should they ever need to.
“We are very proud to have teamed up with Signposted Cymru this Mental Health Awareness Week and would like to thank Darren for speaking with our team. Signposted Cymru is a charity very close to our hearts, and we are looking forward to working with them again in the future.”
The Ringland Regeneration project is a large-scale transformation programme being delivered by Lovell for Hedyn (formerly Newport City Homes), bringing a new lease of life to the Ringland area of Newport. The £47 million project will see 158 new homes be provided and the Ringland shopping centre be relocated.
